A BIRTHDAY PARTY AND A ROAD TRIP OVER MCCLURE PASS TO GLENWOOD SPRINGS, CO.

Last Saturday was my birthday, again.  They're coming faster and faster! We got together at Ken and Marie's with our three other couples that are our friends along with Ken and Marie's son and daughter who had just arrived from Oregon.  I took the opportunity of the five couples being together to get a portrait of us.

Yesterday, Jim and Judy joined us on a road trip that Judy had suggested a few days ago.  They had done the drive a few times over the years so we actually had tour guides with us for a change.  We took a side trip to the little town of Marble which I will post as a separate post later.  It was about 370 kms round trip and the final 135 was on I-70 from Glenwood Springs.  The first part was the most enjoyable.

Here comes a birthday cake.

Our Colorado friends.  From the left Jim and Jane, Jim and Judy, Myself and Aileen, Ken and Marie and Vern and Charlene.  This all came about when Aileen met Marie in the laundry back in 2008 when we were first in Caliente in Florence, AZ.  Marie and Ken kept introducing us to their friends over the years and here we are!

Heading into the Colorado Rockies east of Delta.

North Fork of the Gunnison River.

A series of beaver dams as we approach the top of McClure Pass on Highway 133.

Almost to the top of the pass.

Campground near the top of McClure Pass.

McClure Pass.

At 8,855 feet, the leaves are mostly gone.

Coke ovens at Redstone.  There are about the same number in the opposite direction.

Still a bit of water at the Hays Creek Waterfall.

Along the Crystal River.
