ROAD TRIP TO OWL CREEK PASS. PART ONE.

On Wednesday we invited our friends Jim and Judy to join us on a little road trip.  We headed east through Delta and Montrose to Ridgeway.  After poking around a few back streets, we backtracked a couple of miles then turned onto Owl Creek Pass Road.   There was fabulous scenery along the way and we enjoyed sitting outside in the sun at about 8,000 feet elevation for lunch.

We lucked out with a few ground squirrels that posed for us but we didn't see any big game.  With hunting season about to reopen in a couple days, I guess they were already hunkered down out of sight.  It was about 350 kms round trip and we made it home just at dark.

We were driving through Delta when Jim mentioned that he'd like to see this historic site.  A couple minutes later we saw a sign for it so here we are.

This guy poked his head out of a cattle guard.

We thought this was a bird at first way up in the top of a dead tree.

A wasp nest in a scrub oak tree.  You could see daylight through it.

Lots of interesting rocks in the Rocky Mtns.

We had lunch near where a hunting camp was set up.
