Clifton is adjacent to Grand Junction. We are parked at our friends Jim and Judy's place in beside their house. They have a full RV hookup so we're parked first class! The drive down went pretty well. We did run into some pretty rough roads at times. Until we got to Wells, NV we were travelling our usual north south route. From Wells we headed east and experienced all new country for a day and a half. One surprise which I hadn't anticipated was to arrive at the salt flats. Something I have heard of forever but never expected to see.
We arrived on Saturday afternoon and after getting setup and visiting our hosts, we all headed over to Ken and Marie's for supper and a card game. So great seeing our friends again after five years. During our years in Caliente we played cards with Ken and Marie at least twice a week, had meals together and went on drives. We got to know their friends Jim and Judy when they came Caliente for a few winters.

That isn't water you see but a mirage.
After leaving the salt flats we stopped a rest area for lunch. While Aileen was napping I went for a walk up to a viewpoint that was a lava outcrop.
Looking back, the salt flats are at the base of those mountains.
