I took a drive a little northeast of Carbon to where Highway 27 crosses the Red Deer River valley. The Badlands are readily accessible and there is even a little picnic site that was freshly mowed at the end of the road.
Flowers will grow just about anywhere. I think these are a type of Fleabane.
