A VISIT TO THE NORTH RIM OF THE BLACK CANYON OF THE GUNNISON RIVER

We headed off to the North Rim before nine this morning on what would take most people about 1.5 hours.  Well, it took us over 3.5 because there was a lot of fall colour along the way.  I’m hoping some of the mountains get some snow so I have a different background for the colour.  The Black Canyon was impressive and unique but every overlook was pretty much the same so not too many pictures were taken.  We did appreciate how few people were on the north side compared to the large numbers we could see on the other side.  I presume it is mostly due to the fact it takes about three hours to get from one side to the other.
This is part of Blue Mesa Reservoir, the lake near our camp

The fall colour shots are all along Highway 92 above the Gunnison River

These two afternoon shots reflect the subdued lighting with mostly overcast sky

We did get home a little earlier this afternoon so Mitzy finally got her much needed bath.  I washed the motor home windshield to get the bugs off so we start out with clear vision tomorrow.   We are moving on to Grand Junction, CO where we will stay for a week or perhaps longer.   We will visit friends Ken and Marie and explore more of Colorado from our base there.

  1. Doggone it, John Souva, stop that! You have us drooling all over ourselves to visit Colorado! And that can't happen for a while. Your pictures are so tantalizing, the colors so vivid, even the black of the Black Canyon! Love every bit of it!
