VARIOUS TYPES OF SNOWBIRDS ARE STILL HEADING SOUTH.

We saw some Ross' Geese that spent a few hours resting on Vaseux Lake before continuing their journey south.  This afternoon I saw a flock of pelicans on their way south and the highway has lots of RVs heading for the sunny southwest.  I tried putting my thumb out but none would stop.We both had eye exams today and other than a small prescription change, everything checked out well.

Ross' Geese.

I wonder if this is the same Sharp-shinned Hawk that's been here the past two years?

Still some colour in the poplars along the trail.

Since the sumac leaves are mostly gone, this bird's nest became visible.

Looking down alongside the trail.

A nice pair of mallards.

Oregon Junco, he was getting the centre out of that grass.

While in Penticton the other day, we stopped on a side street for a few minutes and this cat jumped up on the hood.

FALL HAPPENINGS IN THE AREA.

The trees are just about done with their glorious colours for this year.  The vineyards are turning various colours depending on specie and the bighorn sheep have come down from the hills.  Here are a few images from the past couple of days.

Elderberries and fall colour.

This chipmunk was eating sagebrush or something similar.

Vineyard.

Vineyards with Vaseux Lake and McIntyre Bluff.  We live just beyond the bluff in the top left.

About fifty bighorn sheep in a field.  There was a guy monitoring the field measuring the height of the grass.  He said if the sheep eat more than ten percent, the farmer gets compensated.  There were fenced sections as a control measure.

THE DEER VERSUS COYOTES.

While driving to our ATV ride this morning we saw some drama in a field below our road so we stopped to watch.  It was amazing how fast the deer could gain on the coyote who would then zigzag to keep the deer from running right over him.
