THE MAGICAL COLOURS OF ICE PLUS A COUPLE OF FEATHERED FRIENDS

On my walk this morning, I used a different lens than I have been using the past while so I could do some close up portraits showcasing the beautiful reflections and colours either in the ice or below it. I have not altered the colours other than by adjusting the exposure to intensify them.  Of course, when a bird presents itself for a photo, how could I resist?

SOME WILDLIFE AND THE RESULTS OF ANOTHER COLD SNAP

This might be a Cooper's Hawk but I think it is more likely a Sharp-shinned Hawk

FEATHERS AND HAIR MOSTLY TODAY

We had a warm day for a change getting up to 10C which is about 50F.   It was just a teaser because tonight a cold front moves in and we are forecast to get down to -15C/5F by Monday.

This Bald Eagle is not quite fully matured since his head and tail haven't completely turned white.  It takes them 4-5 years to fully mature.

PEEK A BOO WITH A SHARP-SHINNED HAWK

On my walk this morning I noted there were no little birds out in the open so I thought there must be a hawk around.  Sure enough, I finally spotted him hiding in the dense foliage of a pine tree.  Then he moved to a deciduous tree with a few orange leaves still hanging on at this late date.  Finally he appeared high up in a pine tree in the sun.

With the temperature dropping again there is a bit of ice forming in the river

CATCHING UP A FEW DAYS

I drove up to Kelowna Friday morning and picked up our daughter, Bev.  Her hubby Kevin, had to work so he drove down from Salmon Arm Saturday morning and we enjoyed our visit with them.  Kevin brought us a new toilet and proceeded to install it.  We had one of our toilets replaced by the dealer and decided to change out the other before we had more issues with it.  He also repacked the wheel bearings on our utility trailer which I appreciated.  He did a little electrical fix in the kitchen too.

We went for a drive last Thursday.  We had several days in a row of fog and this is as we were climbing above the fog.

On the way home from our drive, I spotted this eagle in a tree behind a gas station.  I pulled in to the gas station and took this photo through my open sun roof.

On Friday the fog was still with us creating some nice hoar frost

The sun came out today and the little birds liked it.  This is a female House Sparrow.
