The females select the spawning site and dig nests with their tails then deposit between 2,000 and 4,500 eggs in them. The male then swims over and fertilizes the eggs. There is a lot of competition between the males as to who gets to fertilize the eggs so other males are aggressively chased off. The first few photos are of the fish just hanging then there are a couple of chase sequences following.
