The females select the spawning site and dig nests with their tails then deposit between 2,000 and 4,500 eggs in them. The male then swims over and fertilizes the eggs. There is a lot of competition between the males as to who gets to fertilize the eggs so other males are aggressively chased off. The first few photos are of the fish just hanging then there are a couple of chase sequences following.

FOUND A FEW FEATHERED FRIENDS THIS MORNING
Today was a stay at home day and during the course of the day I got the house windows washed. Since it was a gorgeous sunny day, I had to wait for the sun to get off some of the windows. I even managed to grab a nap this afternoon.

ATV RIDE TO A NEW TO ME AREA ABOVE PEACHLAND
Just three machines and four riders showed up this morning for a great ride. We got to explore some neat trails and see some beautiful scenery.

SOME PHONE PICS SINCE WE GOT HOME
Sumac up the river trail
The Peach King in Keremeos where we bought our pears. Notice the smoky day.
I asked a guy if I could take a photo with his Harley in the foreground and he agreed.
Sumac
The first four batches of pears, 28 pints (500ml). The next day we did 21 more for a total of 49 jars from forty pounds of Bartlett pears.

That's why they call it White Lake. When it is dry nothing but alkali remains.
Not much great fall colour this year after the drought but there are pockets of it.
Burnell Lake Road. We took the RZR for a ride earlier in the week to check my geocaches and enjoy the last nice day of the year.
When we got to Burnell Lake we had a nice visit with neighbours Dave and Sylvie who decided to also enjoy the last nice day with a campfire and hamburgers.

My neighbour Don wanted to go for an ATV ride so we did that yesterday. We had lunch here at Madden Lake.
I almost stepped on this Dragonfly. He was alive but not moving because of the cold.
From above Ripley Lake we got a nice view down into the valley and the hamlet of Willowbrook.
Looking south toward Osoyoos and the USA border from above Burnell Lake.
